I think people need to get something like "Psp file manager" or a program like "Total Commander" on their PSP. Maybe, that will help...lol:) Cheers from Ukraine!!!

I dunno peeps, i bought it thinking wow hand held gaming good specs, not bad, then i down graded the firmware to 1.50 and am using homebrew for everything, i've never paid for a game and i can run all the classics on emulators, the browsers a little cruddy in it's capabilities but at the end of the day it does what it say's on the tin and you can make it do a hell of a lot more.

Uh... yeah. You can. Like a whole web page.

Pretty sure it's been hashed and re-hashed that, as far as hand-held gaming is concerned, the PSP manages to do what it's supposed to do. (It ought to be mentioned that, as I have had mine since launch, too, it didn't even do that originally.)

My wife's died on her a lo-o-ong time ago after she put the Sims 2 UMD in it. Can't explain it, but the whole thing just died on her. Since we weren't together at the time, and I wasn't finding much use for it, I mailed her mine.

Fast forward 2 years or so, I just found it at the bottom of a box today while doing some unpacking from a recent move and thought I'd see if any of the firmware updates offered in the last 2 years made any improvement.

It was nice -- almost redeeming -- to see that Sony had included a browser, WMA support, Flash support, etc., until I tried to use it at any length.

It's either going back in the bottom of the box or finally on Ebay (though I doubt I'll get much of a turnaround on it). Do the folks at Sony even bother reading the blogs to get public reflections of their products? To say it again, the PSP isn't a bad device; it was just released by Sony.

I hope Microsoft considers putting something like this out someday soon, learning a lesson from Sony's Frankstein.

Sony has (had) such a great oppurtunity with the PSP, but they made it so damn user unfriendly- How many PSP owners had to basically figure out a LOT of the PSP functions by trial and error? I've had mine since launch and I probably use it a total of 20 hours/year. On the verge of selling my souped-up PSP and just buying a pimped-out ipod. Sorry, Sony- oppurtunity wasted.

The protential is there for this machine the PSP to become a nice little mobile gadget at home. The children could roam the house while listening to their favourite music off your local network, msn, movies and with their head phones on. So whats the deal with this Location Player and PS3, just another con while all this is already possible through your home wireless network and PSP. External ram or whatever it takes for general web browsing, come on Sony get your finger out because this unit ic capable of so much more and there is never enough Laptops around and not everybody wants to drag alaptop around. Mobile fantasy......

Anonymous: Agreed. If only they did that, but, they don't. Maybe they will update that 'feature' in the new slimmer version of the PSP they just announced. It seems to be a major frustration of users, so I don't see why they wouldn't.

Your PSP has 8mb of ram to display images (forget about cache, memory stick size or anything, its the 8mb limit)

Web pages are designed for A PC which normally has about 1gig of available ram (both chip and virtual memory).

So there is the math

Web page, designed for Big PC with 1gig of ram. Your PSP has 8mb RAM.

Changing the Cache to off or 2mb will have no effect. Cache is not used to display pages, its used to store it for viewing later.

Having a 512mb memory stick doesnt give your PSP 512mb of RAM, it gives it 512mb of storage. Think of it as your PSP's hard disk.

Note:Sony can't fix the problem unless they build a new psp with a bigger amount of ram memory.

Each psp has an 8mb RAM built in, if the website, or flash games take up to much memory, it wont show anything, and there will be an error. I heard that sony will be selling RAM upgrades in the near future. We'll have to wait for that.

Josh: Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to expand the amount of memory available for the PSP's browser. It uses a portion of the systems internal memory, so buying a bigger memory card will not do anything for your web browsing experience.

I actually got so frustrated with the PSP that I eventually sold mine.

Thanks everyone. I finally figured out what was causing the problem after some searching and fiddling, I just never updated the post. But, it is basically as you guys put it. In short, the PSP is simply designed badly.

As for me, I am in the process of selling my PSP, as other than web browsing I just have no need for it, and I really do not even need it for that. I have the Xbox for games, and the cell-phone for on the go web browsing.

Fonzo,

Same weirdity as you as to running out of memory while web-browsing (and by the way, my principle usage of the PSP also - gaming, videos, pics and music do get old.....or I'm just getting older and want to browse new things and see no point in beating GTA or whatever).

As to the problem. One quick method of dumping the memory problem is to just log off, go to another section of the PSP (pics, music.....) and open any file, close file and relog on. Most often this clears the memory cache internal to the PSP. The problem isn't on the memstick, its in the internal RAM memory. Another quick fix is to switch to a different portal. Especially if you are relying on solely the built in web browse Sony internet scheme. Using Vista for PSP or Sparks Portal seems to work far better.....for a while.

Oddly, a freshly charged battery seems to have a positive effect as well.

Any other ideas folks? I'd too be glad to hear them.

There are 2 types of data storage on ur psp, the memcard and also the actual psp. Sony doesnt allow anyone to access theses files though, for some reasons(easy downgrade).

The internet flash and jpg files that are downloaded from the net so u can see on ur psp is inside ur actual psp.
Possibly if u expand that memory inside ur psp, ur chances of a error are smaller.

But the internet browers is definetly not the psp primary feature like u said, the psp was targeted for gamers.
Also the browser was just made so ppl would upgrade therefore they cant downgrade as new secruity patches come in, in each version.

PS: if you dont noe what dowgrading ur psp does, it lets u play homebrew apps and games.

Yo Nephew: Just update the firmware over the internet. It is crazy easy. And yes, I have location free, podcasts, flash, etc. Although the flash player is weak, as the PSP runs out of memory before it fully loads any flash anything. It won't even load on of my VOTM picks. Whack!
