I do not know if it is just my luck mixed with the Bellingham, WA area, but today had to be the busiest day in the history of the Post Office. It was absolutely terrible. People upon people upon cars upon trucks upon everything else. Grrrr.
For starters, I had to go to the Post Office because I was supposed to get my Netflix movie a few days ago. Well, as you would expect, it never showed up. Given that Netflix has never been late by more than one day, I figured the problem must be the Post Office. Add to that the fact that my landlords were forced (by the Post Office) to upgrade our mailboxes, I figured my movie must be at the Post Office (sounds logical, right?).
So, during the day (3ish?) I figured I would make a quick run to the Post Office … wrong. The line was long. Not horribly long, but too long for me to stand in it without my boss taking notice of the time I was out of the office. So, no Post Office visit and back to work I go.
Next I try after work (4ish). Bad idea, really bad idea. It looked like rush-hour traffic by the Post Office, with the Post Office parking lot being the on-ramp. There was a huge (huge in Bellingham, WA is anything over 10 cars) lineup of cars waiting to get a parking spot. There was also traffic backed-up in both directions trying to get a parking spot on the street. I am not patience, so I opted for the quick and dirty parking lot across the street which is reserved for some business. Hah!
I go inside the Post Office and oh my gosh, it was worse inside. The line was ridiculous (ridiculous in Bellingham, WA is anything in the proximity of 30). And knowing the speed at which our fabulous Post Office employees work, I knew I was going to be in that line for a good hour and some change; a lot of change.
So out the Post Office I walked (did you really think I was going to stand in line? Ha! I have never wanted to see a movie that bad in my life) without my Netflix movie. I mean maybe, just maybe I would have stood in that long line, but not on pure chance. Do you know how furious I would have been to get to the front of the lengthy line only to hear someone say “sorry, we do not have any of your mail.”? Oohh man I think I just might have went postal in that place.
Anyway, what is the deal with the Post Office today (January 3, 2006)? Anyone else experience it? Is it a New Years thing that I am just not aware of?
Oh well, looks like I will be waiting another day or two before I get my movie. Sad.
