Well it is that time of year again. The time of year when I get to make outlandish predictions on what is going to happen in the following year. I have been crazy busy since Xmas with visiting family and shopping and eating and living and etc., so I will try and keep my predictions short and to the point. And the list is…
-: Music :-
The End of an Era. With 50 Cent at the hieght of his arrogance, I think he will fall to the wayside and disappear just as quickly as he arrived. And with him, I think he will take the hardcore thugish/gangstaish rap which has ruled the airwaves for near a decade. Gangsta Rap will still be produced, I just think the obviously overexagerated violent rap style will become people’s second or third choice. Therefore, I am going to give 2006 to the Common’s of Hip-Hop; educated, thoughtful, talented, and mostly non-violent.
-: Movies :-
Poor poor Hollywood (short for the entire movie industry). It is going to be another awful year for Hollywood. I predict that Hollywood is going to spend billions and billions of dollars investing in ways to make the movie experience better (larger screens, better audio, higher quality pictures, etc.) as a means of getting people to leave the house and go to the movie theater. In response to this heavy spending, the price of a movie ticket is going ‘almost’ double. Of course, this entire time, Hollywood will continue to dig into its cabinets and remake old movies instead of thinking of something new and exciting. The continuation of the old-to-new, mixed with the increase in ticket price, is going to cause a dramatic decrease in overall ticket sales.
-: TV :-
It is going to be a good year for TV. A really good year. Reality shows will make a comeback (unfortunately) and slowly takeover the sitcom dinner-time-slots. As expected, drama series (CSI, Alias, 24, etc.) will dominate the airwaves (thankfully). This dominance will be supported by none other than the iPod Video, which despite my own reservations against it, will be a HUGE success and people will gladly pay $X to watch the TV show they missed last night. I find it strage, but it WILL happen.
-: Cars :-
Two thousand and six (you are always supposed to write numbers when they begin a sentance), will be the year of the Hybrid. For those who still are unaware, you can go here to read up on Hybrid technology. And because both Ford and GM are lacking in the Hybrid arena, one of them (most likely GM), will file for federal bankruptcy protection. In fact, I would go as far as to say that one will attempt to buy the other, or the two of them will try and merge, so that they have a chance to become more competitive against the Toyota’s, Honda’s and Hyundia’s.
In addition, I think the SUV market will begin to decline and trucks (yes, old fashioned trucks) will begin to a make a small comeback. I do not think they will replace SUVs anytime soon, but I do feel that as gas becomes more expensive, cars become more fuel efficient and spacier, and trucks become spacier (dual cabs), that SUVs will begin to loose their ‘cool’ factor. The car market however will remain generally unaffected by the truck/SUV changes.
-: Tech :-
Apple will begin to take over a significant sector of the desktop market as the Intel code-base is released to the public and iDevelopers (my name for people who develop internet apps out of their rooms in their spare time) begin to develop little apps by the thousands.
Google will crash. I predict that Google will expand into areas they cannot compete in, shoot their expenses through the roof, manage to have their ad revenue decline, and let their growth slow to the point that it looks like is is decreasing. This will all be assissted by people’s realization that google offers no ‘real’ products and is therefore not worthy of a $200+ stock price.
